Shipping

Is it safe to ship fish through the mail?

Yes. Shipping live fish is a standard and widely used practice in the aquarium industry. This is how fish are transported to pet stores and hobbyists across the country.

We use professional packaging methods designed specifically for live fish to maximize safety during transit.

When will my fish ship?

We ship orders Monday through Wednesday each week.

Once your order ships, you will receive a USPS tracking number via email.

Please note: orders cannot be held indefinitely, so ensure you are ready to receive your fish during that shipping window.

How do I track my order?

You will receive a USPS tracking number at checkout email.

We recommend enabling USPS text or email notifications for real-time updates and to ensure you receive your delivery within the DOA claim window.

Where do you ship?

We ship to all 50 US states.

We do not ship internationally or to US military bases or territories.

For Alaska and Hawaii, please contact us at info@midwestbettas.com before ordering to confirm shipping options.

Can I pick up locally in Lincoln, NE?

Yes. Local pickup is available by appointment and is free of charge.

Simply select “local pickup” at checkout. Orders must be picked up within 7 days of purchase.

Our Fish

Are your bettas bred or imported?

Both.

We selectively breed in-house in Lincoln, Nebraska and also work with trusted breeders for select imports.

Every fish is individually evaluated for:

  • Health
  • Coloration
  • Fin structure
  • Genetic quality

We do not sell unverified bulk stock.

Do you sell females?

Yes. Female bettas are available in our Female Bettas collection.

While males are our primary focus, females are regularly stocked for breeding projects and community/sorority tanks.

Do I need to quarantine my fish?

All fish are quarantined and treated preventatively before being listed for sale.

However, we still strongly recommend a quarantine period upon arrival, especially if introducing fish into established aquariums.

Orders & Returns

What if my fish arrives sick or dead?

Please refer to our Shipping & DOA Policy.

In summary:

Claims submitted through social media cannot be processed.

Do you offer cancellations or returns?

We do not accept returns on live animals.

Orders may be canceled before shipping, subject to a 10% processing fee.

Once an order has shipped, it cannot be canceled.

What happens if weather is unsafe for shipping?

We only ship when conditions are safe for live animal transport.

If weather delays your order, we may hold it temporarily (typically 1–2 days when possible).

If unsafe conditions persist beyond 7–14 days, we will issue a cancellation.

These fees are charged by the payment processor and vary by payment method but are typically around 3%.
